A WARM WELCOME TO 2026 SUMMER GUEST ARTIST PAINTER MICHAEL WARD. Over the years the site has welcomed artists whose works in some way express or interpret the summer theme. This summer the site theme is "Road Trip," celebrating summer road trips and the Route 66 Centennial. Michael Ward paints most of his images from photographs he has taken, whether out on the road or walking around town. They are in some ways familiar in the sense that they could be scenes from road trips or journeys most people have taken over the years in just about any part of this country. ARTIST STATEMENT. Over the years I have come to see my paintings as documents of things looked at but not seen, the ordinary environment that we live in but seldom examined closely. I believe that by close observation, which is necessary to translate source photographs to canvas, I can begin to uncover the grace that is hidden in the things around us. The paintings are my way of bearing witness, and of making people stop what they're doing and pay attention, to something they may have never seen before but that makes them feel "I know this." My subject matter is derived (with a few exceptions) from photographs I have taken over the past 40 years. Some older images may appear nostalgic, but that was never my intent. I am, however, ever intrigued at how the past lurks in the corners of the present, waiting to be rediscovered.
August 22 - Alhambra Performing Arts Center Programs. The Alhambra Performing Arts Center, under the direction of chef/artistic director Bill Yee, will present a performance by Matt Barber - Sinatra and Friends, celebrating the legendary songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and his contemporaries. The program will take place at 7 p.m. in the Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church, 1850 W. Hellman Drive. Seating is limited and on a first-come basis. Weekly, Thursdays - Downtown Anaheim Farmers Market. Farmers Market hours are 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Entertainment times vary. Check website for weekly schedules. Performances at The Packing House - Weekly performances at the Packing House on the mezzanine stage vary. August 7 - BreaFest: A Taste of the Arts. Brea Fest: A Taste of the Arts will take place from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center, Birch/Randolph.
