March 30 - UCLA Hammer Museum Programs. Screening the movie "Yentl." The musical epic stars Barbara Streisand and tells the story of the titular protagonist Yentl, the only daughter of a rabbi in a small Ashkenazi village in 1904 Poland who yearns to enter yeshiva and complete religious studies like the young men her age. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. Tickets are available on a first-come basis and the box office opens one hour prior to the event. April 2 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. Stones Throw Records Panel. The panel discussion will feature Peanut Butter Wolf, the visionary founder of Stones Throw Records alongside one of the label's standout artists. April 3 - La Plaza de Cultura y Artes Programs. Loss, Legacy and Liberation: Exploring the Opera Ainadamar. Join musicologist and Connects-affiliated scholar Dr. Tiffany Kuo for a lecture exploring the history of Spanish-language opera. The lecture will provide musical and historical context for LA Opera's upcoming Spanish language opera Ainadamar. The Flamenco-inspired opera tells the story of poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca. The program will take place at 6 p.m. at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes, 501 N. Main Street in Los Angeles. April 5 - DTLB Art + Design Walk. The DTLB Art + Design Walk: Celebrate Downtown edition will take place from 2 - 7 p.m. in a large area of downtown Long Beach including Pine Avenue, the historic East Village Arts District, the Promenade and other locations and galleries. There will be visual artworks and interactive installations, live music and performances, group art shows and pop-up galleries and more. Event web pages include interactive maps with locations. April 5 and 19 - Grand Park's Easy Mornings. The spring programs offer a calm start to the weekend with relaxing and family-friendly activities for all ages focused on deepening relationships with self, community and the park. The programs, including arts and crafts, experiences for curious little minds and DJs, take place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Gloria Molina Grand Park in downtown LA, 200 N. Grand Avenue. April 6 - Santa Monica Arts Month Celebration. Santa Monica has marked the state observance since 2019 to raise visibility and awareness about the value of arts within communities. The event will take place from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Annenberg Community Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway. There will be a printmaking activity, a tour of the contemporary Indigenous art exhibit, workshops, poetry readings and more. Reserve a spot via Eventbrite. April 12 - Record Store Day. Record Store Day is an annual global celebration of the unique culture of the nearly 1400 independently-owned record stores in the U.S. and thousands of similar stores internationally. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. April 12 - Riverside Art Market. The Riverside Art Alliance will present the 2025 Riverside Art Market from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in downtown Riverside at White Park, 3936 Chestnut Avenue. April 12 and 13 - OC Fair Imaginology. OC Fair Imaginology is a free family even featuring S.T.E.A.M.-related exhibits, hands-on learning and activities, entertainment, competitions and contests, and more. The event will take place at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission is free and parking is $12. April 15 and 16 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. On April 15, the Musicology Distinguished Lecture Series presents Paula Harper of the University of Chicago speaking on "Sonic Memes, Contagious Tunes and Viral Musicking." This program has been rescheduled from its original January date. The presentation will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Green Room (1230 Schoenberg Music Building). On April 16, Dr. Christian Poske will present a lecture tited "The Land Where Life is Good: Naga Song Responses to Political Conflict." April 19 - UCLA School of Music Programs. UCLA Music Industry Capstone. The annual UCLA Music Industry Capstone is a celebration of the 2025 graduating classes of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music's Music Industry programs. The showcase will include musical acts, presentations and guest speakers offering a glimpse into the future of the music industry. The program will begin at 10 a.m. in Lani Hall. April 19 - UCLA Hammer Museum Programs. Screening the "New Wave." For a group of rebellious young Vietnamese Americans in the late 1970s and 1980s, the struggle to find identity took root in a community of musicians with big hair, vibrant fashion and synthesized beats. A culture clash was born, documented in this film by Elizabeth Ai. The program will take place at 7:30 p.m. and will include a discussion with Ai and UCLA Assistant Professor Thuy Vo Dang. April 25 - UCLA Hammer Museum Programs. Arts Party: Transcend. Arts Party is an annual event designed by UCLA students for college students from all over Southern California. The event will take place from 7 - 10 p.m. and will include live music, artist-led workshops and after-hour access to the galleries. April 26 and 27 - Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is a two-day celebration of the written word and a major literary event. The Festival (lectures, panel discussions, performances, booths, demonstrations, displays, etc.) is free to the public and will take place on the USC campus (though there are some ticketed events as well). Saturday hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Each year one of the stages includes musical performances. The Los Angeles Times pull-out section with complete information and event listings is usually included in the Los Angeles Times on the Sunday prior to the event. Tickets to all outdoor events are free but a fee/reservation fee may be charged for some indoor programs. See additional information for attendees on Festival website. April 26 and 27 - Arts Open San Pedro. Explore all San Pedro's Arts and Cultural District has to offer in this city-wide two-day open studios event. The event will include open art studios, live music, dance and theatrrical performances, guided walking and trolley tours and more. Trolleys will operate from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Studio/gallery hours will be from noon - 4 p.m. and stage performances will take place from 2 - 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance via Eventbrite and explore the event map and schedule on the Arts Open San Pedro website. May 1 - UCLA Lectures/Symposia. Book talk with author Jesica Rode titled "For Women and Girls Only: Reshaping Jewish Orthodox Through the Arts in the Digital Age," a groundbreaking novel on the reversal of mainstream portrayals of ultra-Orthodox religious women and those who have left the community yet maintain ties to it. It is the first work to focus on the ultra-Orthodox female art scene in music, film and dance across North America and on social media. The program will take place at 2 p.m. in Royce Hall 314. May 3 and 4 - Brewery Artwalk. The Brewery Artwalk is a twice-yearly open studio weekend at the world's largest art complex, with over 100 participating resident artists. Attendees will have the opportunity to see new works, discover new favorites, speak with the artists and purchase artwork directly from the studios. Hours are from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., and parking and admission are free. The Brewery is located at 2100 Main Street in Los Angeles. Information: www.breweryartwalk.com.

May 3 and 4 - Sierra Madre Art Fair. Sierra Madre's annual celebration of the arts will take place Saturday from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Memorial Park, 222 West Sierra Madre Boulevard (at the Civic Center). There will be over 70 artists displaying their works, craft projects, food/drink vendors and live music throughout the day. The full entertaiment schedule should be available online. LONG BEACH - KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND (TURN)TABLE. Knights of the Round (Turn)Table is a monthly event modeled after a book club. Back in the day, people used to listen to the records while staring at the album artwork and liner notes. The programs seek to recreate this experience in the company of other music lovers. LOS ANGELES - DOWNTOWN AND VICINITY GRAMMY Museum News. Beginning on January 25, the Museum will be free for all visitors ages 17 and under, expanding the opportunity for young individuals to experience the interactive exhibits. This includes admission to the February 14 preview of Sonic Playground, an immersive, music-making experience dedicated to the legacy of Jim Long. Information: www.grammymuseum.org.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY - LACMA SPRING PROGRAMS The Los Angeles County Museum of Art makes available a publication called The Guide. The Guide includes information on LACMA's Education and Public Programs for Spring 2025, including music programs. The Guide can be downloaded in pdf format as soon as it is available.   • WHITTIER - Whittier Art Stroll Uptown. No current dates listed. The Whittier Art Stroll Uptown takes place from 5 - 9 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month. The event includes art from more than 40 artists, plus live music, treats, a variety of vendors and more. A variety of events are hosted primarily at local businesses.   • BOWERS MUSEUM - First Sunday of the month - family programs are generally from about 12:30 - 3 p.m. (see concert pages). Museum address is 2002 N. Main Street in Santa Ana.   • BROAD MUSEUM - The Broad is LA's new contemporary art museum. It is located in downtown Los Angeles on Grand Avenue next to the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The museum is closed on Monday; hours vary on other days of the week. Advanced tickets may be reserved online, or there is an onsite standby line each day for admission on a first-come basis.   • CALIFORNIA AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM - Target Sundays are every second Sunday of the month.   • CALIFORNIA SCIENCE CENTER - There is free admission to all permanent exhibition galleries at the California Science Center (excludes IMAX and special exhibits).   • CHINO YOUTH MUSEUM - The Chino Youth Museum offers Free First Friday programs from 3 - 5 p.m. Programs include art projects, snacks, time to explore the museum, exhibits and entertainment.   • FIRE STATION/MUSEUM OPEN HOUSES - Two area historical fire stations offer free tours on Saturdays. In San Pedro, Old Fire Station 36 (located at 638 Beacon Street) is open from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. In Hollywood, Old Fire Station 27 is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both offer a variety of artifacts and exhibits.   • THE GETTY CENTER - Free admission; parking is $15, but $10 after 5 p.m. The museum does not require parking reservations. Off the 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive.   • GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY - There is no admission charge to enter the observatory, but a fee for planetarium shows. Monthly public star parties offer the public a chance to try out telescopes and talk with amateur astronomers from 2 - 9:45 p.m. Check for upcoming star party dates.   • HUNTINGTON LIBRARY, ART COLLECTIONS AND BOTANICAL GARDENS - Free admission the first Thursday of every month. Tickets are required and reservations become available on the first date of the month prior to the visit (i.e. reservations for the first Thursday in August become available starting July 1).   • THE IRVINE MUSEUM OF ART - The Irvine Museum of Art is a small OC museum dedicated to the preservation and display of California art of the Impressionist period (1890 - 1930). 18881 Von Karman Street, Irvine, Ground Level.
