Saturdays and Sundays, September 6 - 28 - Festival of Children at South Coast Plaza. - The Festival of Children is a month-long celebration of the wonders of childhood with performances, free activities and celebrity appearances. Most events are Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the Carousel and Jewel Courts of South Coast Plaza, Bristol St./405 Freeway. The event also showcases children's charities. Segerstrom Center for the Arts/Argyros Plaza Events. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts will present a variety of programs outdoors in the Argyros Plaza. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is located at 600 Town Center Drive. For most events, admission is free only with the SCFTA's new Plaza Pass. Sign up for the free digital Plaza Pass for access to concerts, classes and festivals on the plaza throughout the year without any additional tickets or RSVP required. Surf City Nights, Orange County's largest weekly street fair and farmers market, takes place weekly from 5 - 9 p.m. throughout the year. The event includes over 100 vendors, family-friendly/live music street performances, and activities for children. The event takes place along Main Street in downtown Huntington Beach and The Strand on 5th. Check website for weekly entertainment information. Old World has been hosting Orange County's largest Oktoberfest since 1977, with chicken dancing, oom pah pah bands, competitions, a 10,000 square foot open air Biergarten and over 60 beers on tap. September 14 - Fiesta Latina en Irvine. The City of Irvine will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Fiesta Latina en Irvine at the Great Park from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. There will be live entertainment, community organization booths, a pop-up art exhibition and food for sale. Reservations are not required, and the OC Great Park is located off the Sand Canyon exit on the 5 Freeway. Information: (949) 724-6247 or www.cityofirvine.org/fiesta. September 26 - Mid-Autumn Festival at the Great Park. The City of Irvine, in partnership with the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, will will present the fifth annual Mid-Autumn Festival at the Great Park from 5 - 9:30 p.m. Also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, it is a traditional festival celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian communities. There will be live music and dance performances, cultural exhibits, crafts, specialty food trucks and art demonstrations. Tunes at the Dunes concerts will take place over the Labor Day weekend at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina, 1131 Back Bay Drive. Programs will take place from 5 - 8 p.m., and bands will be: August 29 - Kelly Boyz Band (Country), August 30 - Family Style (Blues/Soul/Rock 'n Roll), and August 31 - Flashback Heart Attack (80s). August 29, 30 and 31 - Orange International Street Fair. The Orange International Street Fair will take place on Friday from 5 - 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. in the blocks surrounding the Orange traffic circle at Glassell/Chapman Avenue. The event includes multiple blocks of international food and music organized around country themes, including multiple music stages. Please note: this event tends to be VERY crowded, and comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. Parking can be found in local residential neighborhoods and for a fee in several nearby public parking lots. See website for full entertainment schedule and other event information. The Heartbeat of Mexico Festival will take place from noon - 7 p.m. on the Chapman University campus, 1 University Drive. The festival celebrating Mexican and Mexican-American culture will include two stages of music and dance performances, community organization booths, a chalk art contest, beer garden, live painting, crafts and more. September 21 - St. John's Concert Series. The Bonner Singers. August 30 - KCRW Summer Nights KCRW Summer Nights at the Bowers Museum. The event will include live sets from KCRW DJs Raul Campos and Jason Kramer, pop-up bars, activities for kids and more. The galleries will be open late, but please note that admission to the KCRW event does not include museum admission. There will be a fee for museum admission and an extra surcharge for a ticket to view the Terracotta Warriors exhibit. The Bowers Museum is located at 2002 N. Main Street. This month's festival is an Iranian Mehregan Festival, presented in partnership with the Farhang Foundation.
